Villa Borbone’s Visiting Center
It has been drawn out from the northern wing of Villa Borbone, in the premises that in the past were used as coach shed and stables. The three premises host: a small natural history museum with finds (animals, bones, feathers, etc) coming from the brush, a room is equipped for small conferences, conventions and lectures, one room is equipped with four projection screens.
At the entrance you can find a welcoming front- office where it is possible to consult and buy publications, gadgets and ask for information on the Villa and the Park.
During the year, different activities are organized. Some of these are: for children, symposiums with naturalistic themes, days dedicated to families who want to rediscover the territory’s traditions, summer green weeks for children, guided excursions on foot or by bike to get to know the inedited Versilia of the natural preserves of Lecciona and Guidicciona.
During the school year, free projects on environmental education are organized for schools in the municipality of Viareggio, which aim at the knowledge of the environment, the history and the traditions tied with “Tenuta Borbone” and “Macchia Lucchese”.
Legambiente Versilia is a volunteer-work association which has been present on the territory for over 25 years and throughout this whole time, it has been committed to making sure that the conservation of the environment in Versilia is a very present theme in the government agendas of the different municipal administrations. The distinctive trait of the association has been, from the beginning, a scientific naturalism, which is, the choice of founding every project in defense of the environment on a solid base of scientific data, an instrument with which is possible to indicate alternative and concrete feasible paths.
For this reason, every year Legambiente Versilia organizes or takes part to initiatives of education or awareness for the citizens. Among these let us remember the fixed appointments of “Puliamo il Mondo” (Let’s clean the world) and “Spiagge Pulite” (Clean Beaches), which are worldwide initiatives that this association inserts in Versilia’s local reality.
Since 2011 this association manages the Visiting center of the Regional Park Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli at Villa Borbone and it ensures the opening, the organization of events and environmental education, offering visitors useful information to better live in the protected area in which they live.
It is possible to follow Legambiente Versilia’s activities on the blog www.legambienteversilia.blogspot.it and on the Facebook group “Legambiente Versilia”.
